Best 12L dehumidifier in 2026
12 litres a day is right for most flats and small houses. Go bigger only for a large or very damp home.
The best 12L dehumidifier for most homes is a quiet compressor model with a humidity sensor and a laundry mode, such as the Pro Breeze 12L or the MeacoDry ABC 12L. They use about 140 to 200W, which costs roughly 4p to 5p an hour at the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p per kWh. If you have a large house, a cellar or serious damp, step up to a 30L model. These were selling in large numbers on Amazon UK on 18 October 2026.

Is a 12L dehumidifier big enough?
- 12 litres a day is the extraction rate in test conditions (warm, very humid air). In a normal UK home it will pull out less, which is fine.
- A 12L dehumidifier suits a flat, a one to three bedroom house, or one problem room such as a bedroom with condensation.
- Choose 20L or more for a four-bedroom house, a home with lots of washing dried indoors every day, or obvious damp patches and mould.
- In a cold garage or conservatory, a desiccant dehumidifier works better than a compressor one. All the picks below are compressor models for heated homes.
What to look for
- A humidity sensor and auto mode, so it switches off when the room reaches the level you set (around 50% is a good target).
- A laundry mode for drying washing indoors.
- Tank size and continuous drainage. A bigger tank means emptying it less often; a drain hose lets it run without emptying.
- Noise. Under about 40dB is quiet enough for a bedroom on its low setting.
- Power. Most 12L compressor dehumidifiers use 140 to 200W. The listing's technical details show it.

Power from each listing's technical details on 18 October 2026. Running costs worked out by us at the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p per kWh (1 October to 31 December 2026, average for Direct Debit), at full power. Compressors cycle on and off, so real costs are usually lower.

Where to put a dehumidifier
In the room with the problem: the bedroom with condensation on the windows, or the room where you dry washing.
Close the door so it is not trying to dry the whole house, and leave a gap around the machine for airflow.
For drying laundry, see our guide to the best dehumidifier for drying clothes, which compares running costs per load.
Before Black Friday
Dehumidifiers sell most from October to February, so prices do not always drop much around Black Friday (27 November 2026). If you have damp now, buy now.
Questions people ask
What is the best 12L dehumidifier in the UK?
The Pro Breeze OmniDry 12L is the best seller, with a laundry mode and humidity display. The MeacoDry ABC 12L is a quieter, lower-power alternative.
Is a 12L dehumidifier big enough for a house?
For a flat or a one to three bedroom house, yes. For a larger house or serious damp, choose 20L or more, such as the Pro Breeze 30L.
Meaco or Pro Breeze?
Both are popular UK brands. Meaco's models are quieter and use less power; Pro Breeze's sell in larger numbers and often cost less. Both make compressor models with humidity sensors and laundry modes.
How much does a 12L dehumidifier cost to run?
Most use 140 to 200W, so about 4p to 5p an hour at the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p per kWh (October to December 2026). They cycle on and off, so usually less.
What humidity should I set my dehumidifier to?
Around 50% is a good target for most homes. Below 40% can feel dry; above 60% encourages condensation and mould.
Do I need a 30L dehumidifier?
Only for large homes, cellars or very damp properties. A 30L model removes more water but uses more than twice the power of a 12L one.
