Sony WH-1000XM6 vs WF-1000XM6 is really headphones versus earbuds. Both are Sony's flagships with its best noise cancelling, but the WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones last longer (up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on) and block more noise over long journeys, while the WF-1000XM6 earbuds fit in a pocket and charge in their case. Sony WH-1000XM6 vs WF-1000XM6: the differences
- Form. The WH-1000XM6 are over-ear headphones that fold into a case. The WF-1000XM6 are in-ear earbuds with a charging case.
- Noise cancelling. The headphones use Sony's QN3 processor and 12 microphones. The earbuds use the QN3e processor and 8 microphones, two more than the WF-1000XM5.
- Battery. Headphones: up to 40 hours, or 30 hours with noise cancelling. Earbuds: 8 hours in the buds with noise cancelling, 24 hours with the case (36 hours with it off), plus wireless charging.
- Calls. The earbuds use bone conduction and beamforming mics, which Sony calls its best-ever call quality.
- Sound. Both are tuned with Grammy Award-winning mastering engineers, according to Sony.

Replacing WH-1000XM6 ear pads (earpads)
Ear pads wear out after a year or two of daily use, which lets in more noise. Replacement pads made for the XM6, such as WC PadZ, have memory foam inside and clip in. Check they are listed for the WH-1000XM6, not an earlier model.
