Is the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition 32GB worth buying in 2026?

A Kindle that shows covers and comics in colour.

The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is worth considering if you read comics, graphic novels, cookbooks or children's books, or just want colour covers and highlights. It has a 7-inch colour display, an auto-adjusting front light and up to 8 weeks of battery. If you only read novels, a Paperwhite costs less.

The 30-second verdict

The Colorsoft is Amazon's first colour Kindle. It keeps what people like about a Kindle: a glare-free screen that is easy on the eyes, weeks of battery and no distractions. Colour is the extra, and it matters most for illustrated books and for highlighting in different colours. For plain text, the black-and-white Kindles read just as well.

It was selling in large numbers on Amazon UK when we checked, on 11 October 2026. We have not tested it ourselves. This guide is based on the manufacturer's specifications and buyer demand. How we choose.

What actually matters

E-paper colour is soft

Colours on e-paper look like a printed newspaper, not a phone screen. That is the trade for a screen that is comfortable to read for hours.

No distractions

There are no notifications, social media or other apps. For many readers that is the point.

The drawbacks

  • It costs more than a Paperwhite.
  • Colours are muted compared with a tablet.
  • Kindles are tied to Amazon's book store, and UK public library ebook lending does not work on them.

Colorsoft or Paperwhite?

The Paperwhite is black and white and cheaper. The Colorsoft adds colour. If nearly everything you read is text, the Paperwhite is the better value.

Buying it on Black Friday 2026

Amazon discounts its own devices heavily at Black Friday, and Kindles are among the most reliable price drops of the event. This is one where waiting usually pays. Black Friday is on Friday 27 November 2026. We do not list prices here because they change by the hour. See our Black Friday checklist.
