Is the Apple iPad 11-inch (A16) worth buying in 2026?

The iPad most people should buy.

The Apple iPad 11-inch with the A16 chip is worth considering if you want a tablet for streaming, browsing, video calls, schoolwork and casual games. It has an 11-inch Liquid Retina display, 128GB of storage and Touch ID. For professional drawing or laptop replacement, the iPad Air or Pro are better suited.

The 30-second verdict

This is Apple's standard iPad, and for most people it is all the iPad they need. The A16 chip handles everyday apps comfortably and the base model now starts at 128GB. It works with a keyboard and Apple Pencil if you add them. The more expensive iPads have better screens and faster chips, which mainly matter for creative work.

What actually matters

Storage is fixed

You cannot add storage later. 128GB is enough for most people. Choose more if you download a lot of video or games.

Accessories add to the cost

A case, keyboard or Apple Pencil are extra, and Pencil models differ in which iPads they work with. Check compatibility.

The drawbacks

  • The screen is good, but not as advanced as the iPad Air or Pro displays.
  • Accessories can add a lot to the total.
  • Wi-Fi only, unless you choose the cellular version.

iPad or iPad Air?

The iPad Air has a faster chip and a better display, and suits creative work and heavier multitasking. For watching, reading, browsing and schoolwork, the standard iPad does the same job.

Buying it on Black Friday 2026

The standard iPad is one of Amazon's most reliable Black Friday sellers. Colours and storage sizes are separate listings with different prices, so check several. Black Friday is on Friday 27 November 2026. We do not list prices here because they change by the hour. See our Black Friday checklist.
