How to Cancel Spotify Premium UK: Steps and the Free Trial Catch

How to cancel Spotify Premium

  1. Sign in to your Spotify account.
  2. Go to Manage your plan.
  3. Select Cancel subscription and follow the steps.
  4. Keep the confirmation and check your next bank statement.

Spotify also says you can cancel by completing a form and sending it to Spotify, which is useful if you cannot get into your account. The form is linked on Spotify’s cancellation page.

What happens after you cancel Spotify Premium

Spotify says your Premium stays until your next billing date, then your account switches to the free, ad-supported service. You keep your playlists and saved music, and you can still log in and play with ads.

The catch if you cancel during a free trial

Spotify says that if you cancel during a zero-priced free trial, your account switches to the free service immediately, and zero-priced free trials cannot be reactivated. So cancelling on day one means you lose the rest of the trial. The sensible approach is to cancel close to the end, but early enough to beat the first charge. Use our free trial calculator to find the date, and read the details of the Spotify Premium free trial.

If you pay through a phone or broadband provider

If your plan comes through a partner company, such as a mobile or internet provider, Spotify says you must contact that company to cancel. The contact link is in the Payment section of your Spotify account.

Cancelling a Family or Duo plan

The plan manager cancels using the steps above, and any managed accounts then move to Spotify’s free, ad-supported plan. Other members need to ask the plan manager.

Will I get a refund?

Spotify’s cancellation page did not state a refund policy, so check the terms for your own situation before you cancel.

Cancel Spotify Premium: quick questions

Do I lose Premium straight away?

Not if you are a paying member: it stays until your next billing date. A free trial ends immediately when you cancel.

Do I lose my playlists?

No. Spotify says you keep your playlists and saved music.

Where do I check Spotify’s own steps?

On Spotify’s support page, which is the final word.

Our verdict

Cancelling is quick, but timing matters more than the steps. For other subscriptions, see how to cancel a free trial and how to total up your yearly subscription cost.
