Is the KitchenAid Artisan 4.8L Tilt-Head Stand Mixer worth buying in 2026?

The mixer people keep for decades.

The KitchenAid Artisan 4.8L (5KSM125) is worth considering if you bake often and want a mixer that will last and can take attachments for pasta, mincing and more. It has a 4.8 litre bowl and 10 speeds. It is heavy and expensive, so an occasional baker will be fine with a hand mixer.

The 30-second verdict

The Artisan is the classic tilt-head stand mixer: metal body, 10 speeds, and a hub on the front that powers optional attachments. People buy it to keep on the worktop and use for years. It is the right buy for regular bakers and bread makers. If you make a cake twice a year, the money is better spent elsewhere.

It was one of the best-selling products in its category on Amazon UK when we checked, on 11 October 2026. We have not tested it ourselves. This guide is based on the manufacturer's specifications and buyer demand. How we choose.

Good fit for

  • Regular baking: cakes, biscuits, meringues
  • Kneading bread and pizza dough
  • People who want optional attachments later
  • A gift that will last

Think twice if

  • You bake only occasionally
  • You need to store it in a cupboard and lift it out each time
  • You regularly make very large batches of heavy dough

What actually matters

Wattage is not the full story

300W sounds low next to cheaper mixers that quote 1000W or more. Stand mixers differ in how they deliver power to the bowl, so wattage alone is a poor guide. Look at bowl size and what you plan to make.

Colour changes the price

The same mixer is sold in many colours as separate listings, and they are often priced differently. If you are flexible on colour, compare several.

The drawbacks

  • It is heavy, which keeps it steady but makes it awkward to store.
  • Attachments cost extra and add up.
  • Tilt-head models need clearance under wall cupboards to lift the head.

Tilt-head or bowl-lift?

Tilt-head mixers like this one are easier to use for everyday baking: lift the head, add ingredients, scrape the bowl. Bowl-lift models are bigger and aimed at heavy doughs and large batches.

Buying it on Black Friday 2026

Stand mixers are a common Black Friday purchase and are often bought as Christmas gifts. Check the less popular colours, which are sometimes cheaper than the classic ones. Black Friday is on Friday 27 November 2026. We do not list prices here because they change by the hour. See our Black Friday checklist.

Questions people ask

How much can a 4.8L bowl make?

It suits typical home batches: a standard cake, a batch of biscuits or a loaf's worth of dough. Check KitchenAid's guidance for maximum quantities.

Can it knead bread dough?

Yes, it comes with a dough hook. For frequent large batches of stiff dough, a larger bowl-lift model is a better fit.

Do attachments from other KitchenAid mixers fit?

KitchenAid says the hub is compatible with a large range of its optional attachments. Check each attachment's listing for your model.

Is it dishwasher safe?

This depends on the bowl and tools supplied. Check the listing for the set you are buying.
