The Amazon Prime free trial lets new members try Prime for 30 days without paying up front. After the trial it renews at a monthly price unless you cancel, so the trick is to know the price, know the date and cancel in time if you do not want to continue. This page explains how the Amazon Prime free trial works, who can get it and the catches to watch for.

Amazon prime free trial - Tipped2Win

How the Amazon Prime free trial works

You sign up with an Amazon account and add payment details. You are not charged during the 30 days. If you do nothing, Amazon starts charging for Prime when the trial ends. At the time we checked, Amazon UK listed Prime at £8.99 a month or £95 a year after the trial, with a cheaper student option. Prices can change, so check the amount on the sign-up page before you confirm.

What you get with a Prime trial

A Prime trial normally gives you the same benefits as a paying member, such as faster delivery on eligible items and access to Prime streaming. What is included can change, so check the list on the sign-up page. If you are mainly after delivery, work out how many orders you will really place in 30 days. If you want a film or series, check that it is included with Prime and not a separate rental.

Who can get the Amazon Prime free trial?

  • It is aimed at people who have not used a Prime trial or been a Prime member before. Amazon decides eligibility, and you will see whether you qualify when you sign up.
  • You need an Amazon account and a payment method.
  • Students and 18 to 22 year olds can get a discounted Prime Student membership. Check Amazon’s page for the current rules.

The catches with the Prime free trial

  • A card is needed. You are not charged during the trial, but the card is charged afterwards.
  • It renews automatically. Unless you cancel before the end date, you move onto the paid plan.
  • The price can change. Always check the price shown when you sign up.
  • You may not qualify. If you have had Prime before you might not be offered the trial.

How to cancel the Amazon Prime free trial

  1. Sign in to your Amazon account.
  2. Go to “Manage Prime Membership” in your account settings.
  3. Choose the option to end your trial and benefits, and follow the steps.
  4. Keep the confirmation email and check that the account shows the membership as ending.

To find your cancel-by date, use our free trial calculator, and read our guide on how to cancel a free trial for the full routine, including setting a reminder.

Is the Amazon Prime free trial worth it?

It is worth it if you have a clear use for it: a few orders you were already going to make, or something you want to watch. It is not worth it if you are only signing up to be polite to a basket. Set a reminder as soon as you start, and decide before the end date. If you would not pay £8.99 for what you used, cancel.

Questions about the Amazon Prime free trial

Will I be charged during the free trial?

No, not during the trial itself. You will be charged after it ends unless you cancel.

Can I cancel on day one and keep the trial?

Often yes, but check what Amazon says when you cancel so you know whether you keep your benefits until the end date.

Where can I check Amazon’s own details?

Amazon explains the trial and prices on its own pages, for example Amazon UK’s Prime free trial page. Prices and terms there are the final word.

Our verdict on the Amazon Prime free trial

A good way to try Prime if you set a reminder and are honest about whether you will use it. We checked these details on 1 October 2026 and will update this page when they change.
