Dyson V8 vs V10: which Dyson cordless vacuum should you buy?

The newest V8 now matches the V10 on suction and run time. Pay more only for the V10's extras.

Dyson V8 vs V10 used to be an easy choice: the V10 had more suction and a longer battery. Now the new Dyson V8 Cyclone also claims 150 air watts and up to 60 minutes, the same as the V10 Konical, so the V10 is worth it mainly for its dust-revealing light, the auto-empty Dok version or the Submarine wet roller. The V8 Origin is the cheapest way into a Dyson cordless vacuum. Here is the current range from Amazon UK on 18 October 2026.

Dyson V8 vs V10: the key differences

  • Suction. The V8 Origin and V8 Absolute are listed at 115 air watts. The new V8 Cyclone and every V10 on sale are listed at 150 air watts.
  • Run time. The V8 Origin runs for up to 40 minutes. The V8 Cyclone and V10 models claim up to 60 minutes, in the lowest power mode with a non-motorised tool.
  • Cleaner head. Every model has a de-tangling head for pet and long hair. The V10 Konical uses Dyson's cone-shaped head designed to shed all hair lengths.
  • Extras on the V10. A light that shows hidden dust on hard floors, an optional auto-empty Dok that empties, charges and stores the vacuum, and the Submarine version with a wet roller head that washes hard floors.
  • Battery. The V8 Cyclone has a click-in replaceable battery, so a spare doubles the run time.

Which do you need?

  • A flat or small house with mostly hard floors: a V8 Origin is enough.
  • A family home with carpets and pets: the V8 Cyclone or V10 Konical, for the stronger suction and longer run time.
  • You hate emptying the bin: the V10 Konical with the auto-empty Dok.
  • Lots of hard floor and sticky spills: the V10 Submarine, which vacuums and washes.

Questions people ask

Dyson V8 vs V10: which is better?

The V10 Konical is better equipped, with a cone-shaped head and a dust-revealing light. But the new V8 Cyclone matches it on suction (150 air watts) and run time (up to 60 minutes), so for most homes the V8 Cyclone is the better value.

Is the Dyson V10 still worth buying?

Yes, if you want the auto-empty Dok version or the Submarine wet roller for hard floors. Otherwise the V8 Cyclone gives you the same suction and run time.

How long does a Dyson V8 battery last?

The V8 Origin runs for up to 40 minutes and the V8 Cyclone for up to 60, in eco mode with a non-motorised tool. Using the powered floor head on max mode shortens that a lot.

Can you replace the battery on a Dyson V8?

The V8 Cyclone has a click-in replaceable battery. Replacement batteries are sold for older V8 models too; buy genuine Dyson parts.

Is the Dyson V10 good for pet hair?

Yes. The V10 Konical's cone-shaped head is designed to shed hair of all lengths, and it has 150 air watts of suction.
